Total Commander 11.58 Released – Bugfix Release
Christian Ghisler has released version 11.58 of the file manager Total Commander. This update comes just a few weeks after the previous version 11.57 and primarily focuses on bug fixes. Users are encouraged to download the new version promptly to benefit from the improvements. A key feature of Total Commander 11.58 is the secure handling of archives that contain encrypted filenames. This version prevents directory names from leaking through tabs and history.
Additionally, names of archives with encrypted headers are no longer written to the log file by default, which can be configured using the LogEncryptedNames option in the wincmd.ini file. The version number has been changed from 11.57a to 11.58 to resolve issues with WinGet. This adjustment is part of ongoing efforts to make the software more stable and user-friendly. The changes are documented in the complete changelog available on the official website. Another new feature is the placeholder [X+] in the mass renaming tool.
This inserts text from the clipboard, using an empty string if the clipboard contains no text. This functionality significantly expands users' capabilities when renaming files. The configuration bar and the single button now also support negative symbol numbers, which are interpreted as resource IDs. This change allows for more flexible customization of the user interface. Additionally, a bug has been fixed where the cm_FocusLeft function no longer worked.
Total Commander is known for its user-friendly interface in the style of Norton Commander. The software offers numerous built-in tools, including the ability to pack and unpack Zip archives as well as synchronize directories. These features make the file manager an indispensable tool for Windows power users. The software is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, enabling use on various Windows operating systems, including Windows 10 and Windows 11. Registered users can use the new version for free, while new users can test the software for 30 days.
The release of Total Commander 11.58 is another step in the continuous development of the program. The software has established itself over the years as a reliable tool for file management. According to Ghisler, support for older Windows versions, such as Windows 95, will continue to be maintained. The new version is available for download now. Users should update to take advantage of the latest features and bug fixes.
