BYD Shark: New Plug-in Hybrid Pickup in Europe

BYD has unveiled the Shark, its first pickup model for the European market. The plug-in hybrid pickup made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and is the first vehicle in Europe equipped with BYD's new Super Hybrid DMO technology. One of the standout features of the Shark is its battery with a capacity of 32.2 kWh, which BYD claims is the largest battery of any plug-in hybrid pickup on the European market. This battery enables an electric range of up to 90 kilometers and a total range of 675 kilometers according to WLTP. The Shark's powertrain delivers a total output of 436 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

The vehicle is equipped with all-wheel drive and features special driving modes for various terrains such as sand, mud, and snow. Inside the Shark, there are numerous modern features, including a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, and a Dynaudio sound system. The front seats are ventilated, providing additional comfort. Another technical highlight is the Vehicle-to-Load function, which allows up to 6 kW of power to be drawn from the battery. This enables the operation of power tools or other devices directly through the vehicle.

The Shark will be available in five exterior colors, including the standard Atlantis Blue and optional colors Obsidian Black, Polar White, Grey Green, and Sunrise Orange. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels in a two-tone black-silver design, while fully black wheels are also available as an option. Following its premiere in the UK, the Shark will be introduced in other European markets in the second half of 2026. However, BYD has not yet disclosed details about the specific countries where the vehicle will be offered. Although BYD has not announced official prices for the Shark, there is speculation about a starting price of under 60,000 euros.

The exact pricing structures and equipment variants are expected to be announced closer to the market launch. The introduction of the Shark marks a significant step for BYD in the European pickup segment, which is increasingly characterized by more environmentally friendly vehicles. The combination of high performance, innovative technology, and practical features could make the Shark an attractive offering for environmentally conscious consumers. BYD plans to start the first deliveries of the Shark in the UK in autumn 2026.
