Dacia Hipster: Market Launch Planned for 2027

Dacia has reportedly made progress in the development of the "Hipster", an innovative vehicle that was originally introduced as a concept. According to the British magazine "Autocar", the production model is expected to be unveiled in 2027. The starting price is set to be around €11,000, which corresponds to the current price of approximately £9,500 in the UK. The "Hipster" is designed as a four-seater and is expected to fall under the EU category L7e for heavy four-wheeled vehicles. The technical specifications indicate a maximum power of 20 hp (15 kW) and a maximum weight of 450 kilograms without the battery.

The vehicle's top speed will be limited to 90 km/h. It will be equipped with a battery of approximately 15 kWh, although no specific range has been disclosed yet. The dimensions of the Hipster are compact, with a length of about three meters, a width of 1.55 meters, and a height of 1.53 meters, making it roughly the size of a classic Mini. Additionally, Dacia is considering developing a simpler two-seater version of the Hipster, which could be classified under the less stringent L6e regulations. This variant may feature even lower power and reduced weight to meet the requirements of this category.

The design of the production model is expected to resemble that of the concept vehicle, albeit with some modifications to the front end, bumpers, and lighting. At the rear, the originally planned two-part tailgate will be replaced by a large, side-hinged tailgate. A notable feature is the docking station for smartphones located behind the steering wheel. Production of the Hipster is set to take place in Shiyan, China, where the first generation of the Dacia Spring was previously manufactured. To keep production costs low, Dacia plans to reuse parts from the old Spring model wherever possible.

In contrast, the second generation of the Dacia Spring will be produced in Slovenia, creating additional capacity at the Chinese plant. Although the project is in development, Dacia has not yet officially given the Hipster the green light. According to design chief David Durand, the vehicle is in the development phase and requires final approval from the management. The plans indicate that the finished vehicle will be presented in 2027.
