Google Introduces Information Agents in Search
Google announced at this year's I/O conference on June 12, 2026, that its search engine will soon feature information agents. These agents are part of the new AI mode and are intended to inform users about all topics of interest to them. Users can simply ask the AI mode to track news on a specific topic and will receive updates and links as new information becomes available. The information agents are now available to subscribers of Google AI Ultra in all languages and markets.
Robby Stein, product manager for Google Search, stated that the agents work around the clock in the background to find relevant information. These agents analyze a variety of sources, including blogs, news portals, and social media posts, to detect changes in the context of specific queries. A key feature of the information agents is their ability to send personalized notifications. For example, if a user is searching for an apartment, they can specify their requirements in detail. The agent will then continuously search for suitable offers and notify the user as soon as it finds something.
This is intended to help users obtain the desired information more quickly and efficiently. The introduction of this feature is part of a comprehensive update to Google Search, which is considered the largest in 25 years. The agents are designed to enhance the user experience by providing relevant information in real-time. The availability of the information agents is initially limited to subscribers of Google AI Ultra, who must pay a monthly fee of €99.99.
