Top Salaries in IT: Expert Assessment 2026

Conrad Pramböck, a renowned salary expert, has examined current trends in the IT industry and identified three areas where professionals can expect particularly high salaries. This analysis comes at a time when the demand for IT specialists continues to rise sharply, especially in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing. In the area of Artificial Intelligence, Pramböck sees the highest salaries. Experts working with machine learning and data analysis can expect an average annual salary of over 100,000 euros, according to his findings. This development is primarily due to the increasing integration of AI technologies in companies, which has created a variety of new roles and responsibilities.

Cybersecurity is another area that has seen significant growth in recent years. Pramböck highlights that salaries for IT security professionals have also risen sharply. Experts in this field earn on average between 90,000 and 120,000 euros annually. The rising number of cyberattacks and the associated security concerns are driving the demand for qualified professionals in this sector. Cloud Computing has emerged as the third lucrative area.

Professionals familiar with the implementation and management of cloud solutions can also expect high salaries. Pramböck reports that salaries in this area average around 85,000 euros, with experienced specialists potentially earning significantly more. The impact of Artificial Intelligence on salaries in the IT sector is already noticeable, according to Pramböck. Companies are increasingly investing in AI technologies, leading to a higher demand for professionals who can develop and implement these technologies. This has not only increased salaries in the mentioned areas but also created new roles that did not previously exist.

Pramböck emphasizes that salaries in the IT industry depend not only on specialization but also on the region. In large cities like Munich or Frankfurt, salaries are generally higher than in rural areas. This is due to the higher cost of living and the concentration of technology companies in urban centers. Another factor influencing salaries is the size of the company. Large corporations are often able to offer higher salaries than smaller firms.

Pramböck points out that while many start-ups offer innovative work environments, they often cannot compete with the salaries of large corporations. The development of salaries in the IT industry is also influenced by the shortage of skilled workers. According to a recent study, Germany is facing a shortage of up to 100,000 IT professionals. This gap leads companies to be willing to pay higher salaries to attract and retain the best talent. Pramböck concludes by stating that salary development in the IT industry will continue to rise in the coming years. The ongoing digitalization and technological change will further fuel the demand for IT specialists. "Salaries are expected to increase by another 10 to 15 percent in the coming years," he predicts.
