Samsung Begins Rollout of One UI 9 with Android 17

Samsung has announced that the rollout of One UI 9, the customized version of Android 17, has begun. This update comes approximately three months after the launch of Android 17 on Google Pixel smartphones. The first devices to receive the update are the models in the Galaxy S26 series, including the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra. Additionally, the Galaxy S26 FE already comes equipped with Android 17 out of the box. The foldable models, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8, will also receive the update.

Users of these devices can look forward to numerous new features introduced with One UI 9. One of the standout innovations is NowNudge, an AI-based feature that allows users to perform context-specific actions directly from chats. For example, users discussing an upcoming event or a restaurant visit can directly create a calendar entry or make a reservation. Another feature is NowBrief, which provides summaries of important everyday content. Users can access information about sleep quality, weather, upcoming appointments, or podcast recommendations and customize which information is displayed.

The My FanCam feature is specifically designed for video recordings. It ensures that a selected person remains the focal point of the image by automatically adjusting the framing. This aims to improve image stability and reduce shakes. Additionally, Samsung is introducing the Warranty and Care option in the settings menu. This feature allows users to check the warranty status of connected devices and diagnose current issues.

This is intended to help users manage their devices better and identify problems early. An important aspect of One UI 9 is the enhancement of security and privacy features. The new Security Brief function informs users about current warnings regarding malware, apps from unknown sources, and applications requesting unnecessary permissions. Samsung is also using AI to send privacy alerts that inform about potential risks. For many of these new features, signing in with a Samsung account is required.

The update will be automatically installed on eligible Galaxy smartphones but can also be manually downloaded via the settings under the Software Update section. In the coming weeks, Samsung plans to announce additional devices that will also receive the update to Android 17. The exact list of these devices is expected to be released in the near future. Samsung emphasizes that the new features of One UI 9 aim to enhance the user experience while simultaneously increasing security and privacy.
